I need help. I purchased a set of illuminated neon dials for my 81' 928 Euro. I took apart the instrument pod down to the point of the actual cluster removal. I can not figure out how to get the plastic cover off...of the cluster. Anyone have any suggestions. It almost looks as if its glued on... <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

Yeah...I hope you didn't purchase Speedhut's red gauge faces...
I did this. It didn't work....I replaced the red indiglo faces with red reverse gauge faces, which means black face with red letters. I personally LOVE red instrument lighting, so this was my motivation.
So...you want to pull the clear cover- get an exacto knife or a precision screwdriver, and pry it off. Use "Super Glue" to put it back together.
I did this and it worked out perfectly.....here is a pic of me taking the cluster apart.

I recently removed the instrument cluster lense as well. I found it was loose and came off with little prompting. I recall that it appeared to only be secured along the middle of the top and bottom with a very small amount of glue...might have even been "melted" together...I am not sure.
You should be able to cut the glued sections with a very sharp knife, but be very careful and go slow! Re-installation can be accomplished with superglue...I used Loctite QuickTite ridif plastic adhesive (http://www.loctiteproducts.com/Loctite_Products/detail.asp?catid=17&subid=40&plid=212). I used just use it sparingly and make sure you don't get any on the viewable part of the lense (inside or out), as it will melt and discolour the surface.
BTW;
I had great success polishing out most of the scratches in the lense with Meguir's PlastX plastic polish. You might want to give it a try...much easier to do with the cluster removed from the pod.

Tony,
What works really well for taking out small scratches in anything plastic (like CD's) is the "Micro-Mesh Finishing System". My other main hobby (aside my 928) is modeling and I know that you certainly dabble into using model paints and finishes.
We use this product to polish out airplane model canopies, to create a glass smooth surface for metallic finishes and to polish out paint jobs on car models. The system is essentially a series of progressively finer emory cloths (up to 12,000 grit) and a plastic polish. You use the cloths with water (wet sand) and then finsh up with the polish.
I use this not only on models, but have polished my rear tailights and then followed up with a good polish with Plexus.
If you work carefully and step through the grits, and then use Plexus the results are really spectacular.

Here is the URL for the system if you would like:
