LSD?

LSD?
Quick question... with the car on jackstands when you rotate a rear wheel and the other rear wheel goes in the same direction, does that indicate LSD? And, if the wheels rotate in different directions that indicates no LSD? Can someone confirm or correct this for me? Thanks in advance.

This technique will work most of the time. However, it will not work for Torsen LSDs and it occasionaly will not work for a specific clutch-style LSD becuase the clutch adjustment is *goofy*.

Yes Joe you are correct. I have a 79 euro 5spd and it does not have a LSD. I was disappointed the first time I had it up on stands a saw the rear tires turn in opposite directions and I could hold one tire while the other one kept turning. I dont understand why Porsche didnt put LSD's in all the 928's. It just doesnt make sense. You have a very powerfull hot rod without posi-traction. I have not yet looked into installing a LSD but im sure its very pricey and not that simple of a procedure either. Could someone give a brief description of what has to come apart to put in a LSD.
Thanks

Correct for standard LSD. Does not work for PSD, but all you have to do for PSD is look at the diff.
Also, if it was factory installed, it is indicated in the trans ID Number. An auto box example would be A 28 02 12 1 6 E 05065.
The third pair of numbers (12) indicates 40% LSD. The indicator is the same position on manual boxes as well.

I noticed the PSD will turn in the same direction, but might not if the trans is really hot.
As for the PSD. Wasn't it standard starting 1990-1995 on all 928's? Haven't heard of a 90+ 928 without it.

John,
As far as I know it was standard on the MY90+ cars. I have it on my '84, by virtue of Frankenstein math - i.e., someone's crunched '93 GTS=update opportunities aplenty for me...
