1982 928S engine/tranny...value
I'm pondering purchasing a parts car that has good body panels and good engine and tranny. It's an '82 928S with 90k miles on it.
How much are the engine and tranny worth?
I'm thinking at least $2k? Or am I overestimating? When did the 32V engine start? I think this is a 16V...but not really sure.
thanks,
Adrial

I sold the same combo last week on ebay for $530. The tranny was a 5-speed. If yours is auto, it's going to be alot harder to sell. If the car you are thinking of buying is for parts, pay no more than $1,500.

Well the car is a grand, but the interior is totally gone (like already removed...).
The trans is a 5 speed manual.
I think I'll stay away from this one...if anybody else is interested it wasn't hard to find...is right there in the rennlist classifieds.

928 Bro's,
You only got $530 for a trans and engine? Those da*n non-interference 16V engines just aren't dying fast enough :-) . Seriously, sounds like someone got a good deal, especially if the synchro's were ok.

With the 5 spd it might be fun for a budget track blaster. Especially if the interior is gone- strip every non-essential piece out of that car and your power-to-weight ratio starts looking pretty good. Too bad it's the weak sychro model, but a rebuild isn't that bad.
It is a drag, but there are so many 4V cars that are crunched, or for sale cheap, that there is just no market for a used 2V motor unless Euro-spec. I'm (sadly) certain many will soon start disappearing, re-appearing as containers for malt-beverages.
