Thumbs up Window Switches only lasting 21 years :( :(

Hi All

Recently my passenger electric window switch started playing up.....sometimes worked...sometimes clouting it helped etc....

So I got one from Opc (around £36).....levered up old switch (small flat blade screwdriver) .....chopped off the huge lead and connector that it comes with as didnt fancy removing my centre console yet again lol...

I then soldered it around 3 inches along onto the old wiring ....and all working perfectly at the slightest touch of the switch....

Then around 2 weeks later....sunroof switch starts playing up same symptoms...so got a new one from Ebay....did precisely the same job (soldering etc) and all working on gentle touch again....

Now another 3 weeks have passed and drivers side switch is playing up.....lol...so have just ordered from OPC....and will be soldering again next week.....

Only switch left is rear wiper ...want to bet it will play up soon ???

I think its grossly unfair of Porsche to make switches that only last 21 years...but rather clever of them to make them all start playing up within a couple of months of each other..........lol

The lesson here is .....if one starts playing up....the others will go within 3 months or so...

Also...I didnt realise how HARD I was pressing the switches before.....with the new ones...the slightest pressure with even my little finger makes them work...and faster as well....

Hope this helps

All the best Brett

the switches are easy to replace and probably would have taken you less time to boot its pretty simple just remove the side cover of the console 2 screws for the pass side and 5 screws for the driver side, plus sometimes the package shelf . the right window and sunroof are on the right side of the console and the driverside is on the left

Make sure you read this on how to fix the switches before you go off and buy new ones..

Mine where the same way, took tons of pressure at just the right angle to get the window to work, drove me nuts. Tony's method took 30 min for both window and sunroof, and now all are working just fine.

Hi

Tried all that before I bought new switches...mine were NOT corroded....the problem was that the main long piece was weakened with age and had totally lost its springiness....no cure apart from new switches...
