Default Speedometer Out

Took atrip to Houston this weekend for wedding and to help my dad in hospital. Drive in from San Antonio was great. Took dad to hospital and on the way all of a sudden the speedometer went out. I did not bring any of my books with me so I don't know if it is a fuse..etc or will require more effort.

All on other gauges are working fine. Any quick recommendations would be appreciated. I my have to wait until I get home later tommorrow. It's just a little to easy to zoom through neighborhood.

Did you try tapping the top of the pod?

This worked for me for a while. It only works while you're going though.

I'm not at all familiar with the earlier cars (or the later ones). But you might want to check out the recent thread I posted about my speedo issues.

If the problem is in the gauge package, it should help. I think there's also a wire that goes to the back that can get damaged/corroded. Have you done any searches for the speedometer not working? I think there's a ground wire you should check in the rear, but don't know enough to help with it.

Good luck.

Mike, I am sorry. I have not done any searches yet. I am typing on a computer at a Drury Hotel in Houston and really have not had any time yet to search. I will try the pod trick and if that doesn't work I will do more reseach when I retrun to San Antonio. Weddings and taking care of dad have been the all day issues this weekend. I was just looking for a simple answer, a quick fix.

Thanks again.

There is a wiring connection in the rear, spare tire area (front side) that can be a problem. Easy thing to try - just disconnect and reconnect.
