Post 928 GT temp

Hi guys,i've just got myself a nice 89 Gt,about 700 miles ago the engine was rebuilt, head gaskets and pistons rings, when both cooling fans kick in when you have the bonnet you can smell anti freeze, would this indicate that i have a leaking rad, also where should the needle be on the temp gauge when driving, mine is more than half way is this ok.

Cool

If you can smell antifreeze, there's a leak. Check your hoses (all of them) the clamps to all of them, your overflow tank and the cap on it. Look for dripping antifreeze and pinpoint the problem. If it's a bad radiator, the OEM versions can be repaired if the cores are still in good condition.

As far as temps go, anything between the two white marks is considered 'normal'. Even going towards the red mark on a really hot day in traffic with the AC on, is not particularly bad. If it gets to the red line or if the warning light comes on, you are definately overheating. YMMV.

I had a pin-hole leak on my rad. Took me a while to find it. If you pull the fans (10~15 min), you should get a good look at the rad and see where the leak is coming from. Could also be a hose like Ed suggests.

Throw an egg in it, see if that stops the leak.

Actually based on my experience i had a leak when i rebuilt my engine, it was one of the head crossover plugs at the back of the heads. One was loose and i was loosing coolant. You wouldnt notice it unless the air cleaner was off. Try that if you find no obvious leaks towards the front of the engine.

EDIT: WTF ANDREW! This is a 6 year old thread!

Do tell about the suspension you are running. 800/525? I have 600/400 and wish I'd gone even stiffer.
Sorry to highjack...

I was bored... just seeing if you're all awake. I thought the Ed Ruiz post would have given it away. Guess not.
