I'm looking to replace my '83 tranny with its blown synchros with a rebuild. Would a later model 5 speed be a bolt in replacement, let's say from an '86? My PET5 CD only shows the original trans model as a replacement option.

Hi Orest,
Yes, it is possible to put in one of the later transmissions (with the borg-warner synchros). However, you must also replace the torque tube - as it is a different length with the later transmission. Another thing to consider - the later transmissions have varying ratios... make sure you get the set up you really want. HTH
