Red face what model is this?

Greetings everyone.

I just bought an 82 928 this week and boy does it need some work.
I called the Porsche dealer here in Indy to get all the manuals and between the parts guy and myself we couldn't figure out if it was an "S" or not.
I have done the VIN search but I'm afraid that with my pea brain some of the numbers weren't listed.

Could someone point me in the right direction?
VIN is WPOJAO927CS820185

I did a google search for VIN's and none of those sites had a listing for it, I'm starting to get freaked out about this and I haven't turned the first bolt on the car.

You can get much better deals on parts, including the manual, if you call "the big three" (in alphabetic order):

<a href="http://www.928gt.com" target="_blank">www.928gt.com</a>
<a href="http://www.928intl.com" target="_blank">www.928intl.com</a>
<a href="http://www.DEVEK.net" target="_blank">www.DEVEK.net</a>

And of these suppliers wilil give you more tech support than a Porsche dealer as well...

Best of luck!

Yes, welcome to the insanity! If you haven't already, read the Admin topic "Read this first," at the top of the postings. There is a wealth of information for new owners.

Also, use the "Search" engine if you have questions about specific issues - whatever it is, you'll probably find a topic.

If you are looking for parts, I agree with Nicole, those she vendors listed are referred to as the "Big Three." You won't find any better resources for information and parts.

Finally, as to the manuals, they are in very short supply and will cost you close to $400.00 when available. There are sources for the manuals on CD, but they cannot be advertised here.

Welcome to the 928 Forum. There is a wealth of information here.

I ran the VIN on CARFAX.com. Unfortunitely, I cancelled my carfax membership last month, so I could not pull up all the details. If you want, you can order an individual report. Or make friends with a used car dealer, since most places have a dealer membership.

This should be your car.

VIN: WP0JA0927CS820185
Year/Make/Model: 1982 PORSCHE 928
Body Style: Coupe
Engine Type: 4.5L V8 FI SOHC
Manufactured In: GERMANY
Search Results: 2 records found in our database

Good luck,

I forgot to paste this:

Report Results
The VIN you entered: WPOJAO927CS820185 is invalid.

However the VIN you entered is very close to those listed below.

YOU MAY SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING AS A SUBSTITUTE VIN:
1. WP0JA0927CS820185 1982 PORSCHE/928/4.5L V8 FI SOHC
(Changed letter O to zero)

That may help in your search.

I'm a little overwhelmed by the response by everyone.

It's going to be about 6 weeks before it sees the inside of the garage but the wife went to see it today and has given her approval (it's easyer to be foergiven than to get permission).

Funny thing is she thought I was talking about a 911, she likes those better and it fits her manner, as well. lol

Maybe this poor neglected car will be fixed up enough for a Indiana 928 get together? I sure hope so.
