My '91 GT took a pretty good wack in the rear end a couple of weeks ago. I needed a new rear bumper cover, which is no longer available, so I decided to go with a GTS bumper cover, courtesy of 928 International. As you know, the GTS has the rear reflector between the tailights, which I'm not totally crazy about, but don't have much of a choice. I was thinking about painting the rear spoiler, just to complete the GTS rear-end look, and was looking for opinions. The car is Guards Red w/ tan. Has anyone done this, and and more importantly, has anyone converted to the GTS and wished they hadn't? Since I don't have access to a GTS in the flesh, it's hard to compare them side-by-side. Any pictures of a GT or S4 w/ GTS rear end would be great.
TIA!
TIA!

Howdy, Joseph:
Look at the Main Index Page for the stuff I put together after attending the 928 Owners Club Convention in 2000.
Follow the links to "Our photos, batch 1", then batch 2, then batch 3.
Look for the white 928 cars. There are actually two of them. One of them was in the group I traveled with to Wichita. The other one is the Devek White Car. Both have GTS rear bumper covers. But neither is paired with a painted wing.
BTW, I've got a '90 S4 and I replaced the rear wing with a GTS-style wing from American International Racing (A.I.R.) (whose web page I can't access right now for some reason). Much nicer looking than the original wing, IMHO. If you click on the following photo, it'll take you to a page that includes photos of my car both before and after I replaced the wing. None are very close in, but you should be able to tell the difference. Note that in the photo that includes my wife in the Donald Duck T-shirt, you can see the reflection of her shirt in the wing.

Oh... and here's a cropped area of one of the photos showing one of the cars I mentioned. And, for the record, and if I remember correctly, the lineup of sharks here is John Veninger (black GT), Mark Grasser (red OB), and Ken (S4; can't remember Ken's last name).

Hello Joseph
A friend has a 90 or 91GT with a painted rear wing. It looked teriffic 18 months ago when he first did it but now it's a little 'creased'. I suspect the rubber material is not completely stable and flexes a bit at high speeds. I'd suggest you replace the original with an all-metal or glassfire replica and paint that.

I think the painted rear wing looks great, but I don't like the GTS bumper cover with the reflective strip - this is one big reason why I am glad to own a '91 model...
If you prefer the original look - why don't you call around and see, if anyone has a used S4 bumper cover? I wouldn't be surprised, if you could even locate a red one, since this is not exactly a rare color. If you ask me, I'd even pay extra to get a used S4 cover, instead of putting a GTS cover on.
But that's only my personal taste. Your taste might vary (YTMV)...
Best of luck!

Thanks 928 Maniac!
One of the first things I did was to replace the rear wing. I sold mine and bought a replica from another 928 owner.
Had my nephew paint it - matches perfect - had to take back all those things I said about him
Still looks perfect. Also, he said he could have painted my black rubber one but I am much happier with the GTS one because of the light weight and better rear viewing angle.

p.s. Just returned from a 700 mile 2 day trip. With new timing belt, new LH controller and new tires - was just an awesome trip. My gas mileage sure decreased as the speed increased - imagine that
