Took shark for 4 wheel alignment yesterday and noticed the car was running hot. I'm told that the AC compressor and cooling fans are constantly running because of a fault in the AC control in the dash. Car WILL NOT run hot when first started and allowed to idle, only when it's on the road.
Radiator "shows a few cool spots, but seems OK".
1 Can the head unit be repaired?
2 Could it be air in the system?
3 How come it doesn't run hot at idle but runs hot on the road?

running hot idling is lack of air flow through failed fans etc. running hoton the road can be caused by - lean mixture, poor water flow (pump problem, radiator blocked, hose problem etc), and by retarded spark timing. This last is the easiest to check, and fix, IMHO.

Hi ErnestSw
A/C control head can be repaired if it's the failed
relay. See <a href="http://www.nichols.nu/tips.htm" target="_blank">http://www.nichols.nu/tips.htm</a>
Greg Nichols has a great write up with A/C head
removal instructions.
I wimped out and bought a used one from 928Intl.
New A/C head runs in the $850 gulp range.
From Wally's posts on the email list, cooling
problems at speed points to coolant flow problems.
Water pump slipping? Clogged radiator?
ErnestW in NYC.
'Enjoying' the mid 90's temps.
