and then if the throttle is held past one third, it slams into second an slides sideways as it shortens the life of my rear tires (which are usually bald anyway) even more.![jumper](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/jumper.gif)

The other way to find 1st that I use more often is when rolling to a stop if you drop it into 2nd. The car will downshift to 1st as you roll to a stop. You should be able to feel it as it drops down. Again, now you are ready for more go-go. I still feel uncomfortable letting the tranny shift 1st to 2nd and normally blip the tranny to 3rd then back to 2nd vs waiting for it to do it. In my '88 this all happens REALLY fast so it takes some practice to get used to.
Let us know how your BBBWWWAAAA--dventures turn out.

If the gearbox is tuned right, it's not necessary to actually hit the WOT switch to get a 1st gear start.
Hitting the WOT is generally _sufficient_ to give you 1st, but not required. Fast deep throttle application will also do it. The gearbox is weighing more than one input to make its decision.

There is a electronic (normally closed) relay which controls the kickdown solenoid on the transmission. At a set rpm, a few hundred below redline, the relay opens the kickdown circuit, and the transmission shifts up.
I'm always surprised how fast the kick-up comes, when I'm teaching lesser cars a lession, from a stoplight.

Last question on this, do I need to press the side button on the t handle to do all of this or can I just pull up and down without pressing in the side button ?
No one has commented on the risks and damage to the tranny doing this thus I'm assuming its a safe thing to do?
You guys are the best!
Thanks

For the 2-3-2 move, you will have to hold the button in, only because you want to pull it back in to 2, after moving it up. The button restricts the 3-2 part.
