Brian,

There's some information on the forum available. With a search you can find a lot. Here's a link to a good write up of the sunroof.

That link was a dead link............Yes I did the search but I was hoping for some direct knowledge from somebody who had the same issue.

Mine did the same thing.

I was able to clean it out and adjust it based on a thread I found here a few months ago. There is an adjustment, but you also probably need to clean the old grease out of the track and put some new grease in there. After 20+ years the old stuff has turned to glue. I'll see if I can find the link, it's like a 15 minute fix.

The sunroof is attached to a sliding frame at both sides and at the front. By turning the screws at the front you can raise or lower the front of the sunroof.

The back of the sunroof is raised by the sliders on the sides. Therefor the sunroof needs to slide all the way forward. Does yours do this? I would try to clean and lubricate the sliders first to see is that fixes it.

To access you need to remove the cover first. The link shows a detailed description and pictures. http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/te...or/sunroof.htm

Hello. I had the same problem with mine. Everything is fine now.
Here is a few good links:

(this site works for me)
http://www.nichols.nu/tip359.htm

It's quite an easy job to do. If you can not find what your looking there,
let me know and and I will look at my document and find what I used.
It's in the garage right now.

Try cleaning the switch. I had the same problem, but my motor sounded slow and weak only while closing. I replaced the motor with another and it was the same. I cleaned the switch and it now works great.

check all of the adjustment screws, any that are loose should be removed and use blue loctite on the screws , on the front 2 hold down screws(2 eace side on the front adjustment bar) dont fully crank these down as you will bend metal , just make them snug and use the bigger height adj screw visible throught the bar to adjust height ,try to keep the front bar level on the tracks, if you make these screws too tight then the front bar will bind on the side tracks and make the roof unable to close. For the rear screws it is usually best to remove these one at a time i think they are 8mm heads and blue loctite them after this try to close the roof. As a side note it might be a good idea to tape a piece of thin plastic to the top center of the sunroof while doing these adjustments, (plastic the kind you might find on a magazine cover) if you make an adjustment that puts the roof too hi then it will scratch the paint on the top of the roof when it slides into its rearmost position. Also you should loctite the rear pin screws these are in the transition blocks they are phillips heads these lock the transition pins into the blocks, you can adjust the rear height by loosening the 8mm bolts and gently pushing the roof up you will see the transition blocks move try to keep them level as they have to slide along the side tracks also inspect the front bar for the little white plastic track guides these will wear out over time and can be replaced, once again if the front guide bar is tightened too much this will cause the whole roof to bind as it slides forward, also as stated earlier clean out the old grease and relube the side tracks. >Also it might be easier to disconnect the motor connector at the roof and use a 12 volt source to directly run the roof motor, by reversing the polarity the motor will spin in the opposirte direction this saves time and wear and tear on your roof switch and it will also let you know if your switch is dirty or needs replacement

That's one way.
i cut and paste the link, thread title and maybe some text to an email to myself, then sort the email to my 928- Sunroof mailbox in Eudora. Makes for an extensive, readily searchable archive.
