Question 5 speed - Can newer gearbox be used in older cars?

I've been posting regarding some shifting issues with my older 5 speed box. I'm trying to weigh my options of rebuilding, replacing etc.

1. Anyone know if the newer gearbox with Borg Warner synchros will bolt up on an earlier (1981) 928?

2. Anyone know how involved it would be to do a swap?

3. Anyone driven both versions and care to share their impressions of both?

TIA

John,
I remember reading that the case for the 85+ transmissions are different. Either longer or shorter by a bit. Might need to change the rear crossemember and the torque tube.
Call 928 International for the real answer.
As for driving difference. The old style wants you to drive "correctly". Rev match for down shifts, double clutching, ect.
The new style is more forgiving when it comes to abusive shifting.
