Hello.
When I bought my -79 928 with a 82 928S engine, the air pump was ceased up
It had, ofcourse, no belt to the fan.
This gave me a somewhat heating problems on warm days, lucky for me here in Norway we do seldom have warm days.
I took the 928 to my lockal Porsche dealer here in Oslo. They told me that this pump was useless from the beginning. What they did was to remove it completely and mount a bracket with a wheel on there instead. This is a modification by a Japanese company.
It works well and my heating problem is gone.

Normy,
It sounds like we agree to a great extent. But be honest with yourself! You own this car "to minimize its impact"? If you really wanted to "to minimize its impact", then you would need to leave it parked. "Saving the environment" is not the first thing that comes to mind when I contemplate why we drive these cars, that's all I'm saying.
I was just surprised to hear, "Save the earth every day" out of the same guy who said:
"Chirping at second is a good thing. Mine chirped going to second and third before I installed... ...Then I may set the modulator for harder chirping shifts later."
