Nice novel approach to a difficult problem. I like your thinking Carl!

Will this design eliminate the tendency to tear off the frame mounting points like the devek bar does?

Randy-
It's not the bar that rips the mount, it the force you put through the bar that rips the mounts. I would think that for most street drivers, you shouldn't have any issues - tracker... well that's a different story.

I think Andrew is right on this. Most street drivers will not crack the stock sway bar mount. But, the 928 swaybar mount is sorta tall and sorta week - high-performance driving and racing flex it - and by the time you put higher forces on it thru a stiffer bar, they tend to crack at the bottom.

The correction is easier before the sway bar mount cracks rather than after it cracks.

I wrote up the process several years ago and I have it among the instructions on our download page.

You may download the intructions (with pictures) for free on how to strengthen your sway bar mounts right here: http://www.928motorsports.com/install.html

I'm willing to bet that cars driven on the street with the stock sway bar have way fewer mount failures than those driven on the street with an upgraded sway bar.

The beefier sway bar transfers more torsional forces to the mounting points, regardless of driving style.

Bottom line - if you plan to upgrade the front sway bar, reinforcing the mounting points should be done first.

I would also suspect that anyone that spends the money to upgrade a street car to the upgraded sway bar is probably not your average commuter..

Carl, cool solution. I saw a similar bar on the front of some Supercup 951s last weekend.

DR recommends beefing the mounts for the stiffest setting of his bars, but I don't think it's necessary for the two lower settings which are both stiffer than stock.

No harm in strengthening that sway bar mount as shown - always a good idea.

Very true. I just meant it's not necessary for all aftermarket bars on all settings.

Carl, I think the standard sway bars come in left and right hand drive versions to accomodate the differnet placement of the rack, I assume that with the straight bar, it will fit both LHD and RHD cars?

thanks

Yes, Jason - you are right. It certainly should fit RHD. I will not announce that it does until I've done it or one of my customers has, and as yet, I have not installed this new anti-roll bar on a RHD car. But I am sure you are right - there is no reason it would not fit.

Side benefit - because the end arms detach from the torsion bar - this will ship in a smaller box than other sway bars. Saves $$

Here is the spring rates of the bars for those that asked. We offer our front bar in 3 different spring rates as shown, plus each bar also has 3 different drop link mounting positions so you can really adjust the bar well to your individual car/weight:

Porsche 928 Front Sway Bar
Size / Wall Thickness / Rate*
28mm OD OEM hollow bar / .176” / 210
1.25” OD 928M GT3 hollow bar / .120” / 313
1.25” OD 928M GT2 hollow bar / .188” / 414
1.25” OD 928M GT1 hollow bar / .250” / 475

* Spring rate measured in pounds @ 5 degrees of twist, with a 10” lever arm Measured on a 38.5” center section
