this is still one of my fav threads! every time I re-read it I'm amazed at how well this turned out!
do you think a double din unit would be as much work? I'm considering the kenwood 7100 series which just takes up 2 std stereo slots... would the pod actuator still have to be moved?

You just gotta see Keiths GTS in person...maybe we can bribe him into to driving down with Louie for Sharks at the Lake??? Everyone knows how picky I am about 928's......Keiths is VERY nice....

Keith's GTS is the nicest you'll see. I won't be able to get to SATL this year. Chris is graduating from College on that weekend and I have to go there. I've offered different suggestions to her so I could still make it to Tahoe, like take a video and I'll watch it when I return, but nothing works.

Wow...this thread seems like a long time ago. I guess that is because I have been working a lot on my Euro since November.
As always, thank you for the compliments.
Rob, mine IS a double din. I suspect that the Kenwood unit is just as deep as the Pioneer. Therefore, you will have to move that actuator.
As I had said previously, if I had it to do all over again, I would just use a flat screen monitor and mount the actual hard components in the back so I wouldn't have had to make all the alterations. I guess now that I had already figured it out, it wouldn't be so hard if I did it again. It just seems that there is an easier way to get the effect I did using different components.

No S4 came with a leather console unless it was an option. I think i heard PCNA was tired of replacing warped ones when the leather shrunk and decided not to offer it.
Allot of Euro cars have the leather dash and console

I have a leather dash that's actually in pretty good condition. It is slightly pulling up around one of the defroster vents. The leather seems to be a regular problem for 928 owners. Porsche did away with it in the later years so you know the earlier leather wrapped dashes weren't that great. Jason

The 4.5 litre cars all had it as standard. It is a rare option on S, S2 and S4 (plus GT, GTS etc). Interestingly the only non 4.5 model that had it as standard (here in the UK at least) was the S4 SE.
It does fade and shrink if it's been exposed to harsh sunlight for 20-30 years - that's what leather does. IMHO it is one of the nicest options on the 928 and one of the reasons I love my 79. It gives the interior a real touch of class. The later cars that don't have it can seem kind of plasticky.

I'm almost finished following Kieth's example.
I plan to create a single piece of trim to surround everything from below the AC vent down to below my Air Fuel gauge where it meets the shifter boot.
I made a temporary panel covered with leather to buy me some time while I figure out what material I want to make it with and how I want to install the radar detector mute switch....

agg-Looking good! A one piece trim has always been in my mind, but it is just one more of those little things I haven't gotten too as of yet. There is a plastics corporation up here that does custom work and I have already talked to them about making me something...just haven't had the time.
Stavenger- Valentine One is a radar detector and the foot well actuator controls the air flow of air to the floor or center vent.
