Exclamation Ford motor mounts

I know this has been covered before, but...

I've seen plenty of write-ups about this, especially about how Anchor Part# 2698 (truck mount) is supposed to be sturdier than #2696 (Tempo mount).

Well, called an engineer at Anchor, who said with exception to the exterior dimensions, they are the same; that the walls were NOT any thicker on the truck mount.

My question is, if these fail, do they just squash and I'm back to square one? Or is there any danger of them sort of "letting go"?

Thanks,
Jeff (a.k.a. cheap s.o.b.)

A know a few folks who installed those Ford truck motor mounts, and they have all had to replace them in less than two years. Meantime, my OEM mounts lasted 12 years, and the new OEM mounts will probably last ten years or more.

I think this may be a case of "You get what you pay for." YMMV.

Really? I had only heard about one so far that had problems with the cheapo mounts. That's all I needed. Not looking to do this twice in one decade...

Thanks!

Wink

I know quite a few 928ers, and many send me messages both pro and con on just about everything under the 928 Sun. For all I know, the three that told me of their Ford MM problems are the only three that have had the problem. However, I'm not one to make any more of this statistical blip than need be, so I opted to go the safe (more costly up front) route. As I'm known to say, YMMV. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Maybe they were even the only 3 to install them!

I don't usually try to cut any corners with these cars. This is the first time I've really felt like something for the 928 costs too much for what it is. I even get tempted to just replace them 5 times in the next 10 years instead. My free time isn't worth that much right now (unless I can find some freelance work!)

I've heard of a couple of people that had new Porsche mounts fail within less than a year, so I guess your milage really may vary.

I just did the motor mount replacement, and used the Porsche mounts. I got them from Devek. They have them on sale.

Red face

Now see, I've heard this about the OEM mounts too....

So Devek has them for $175 on sale. Still pretty damned high by any standards, even Porsche

Thanks Mike.

Took a look at my mounts. They have some space between the base and "safety hooks", but I tried jacking the engine a little, and it doesn't raise any. At what height should it be? Engine doesn't seem low.

I replaced my MM's using the Anchor 2698 last year. They are still holding up with no evidence of settling/failure.

I replaced them last June. &lt;$100 for the pair locally.

So....YMMMV

Thumbs up

Thanks Jay. What kind of miles do they have on them so far?

Looks like I'll be going the same route after all. Got the old ones out really easily yesterday using John Pirtle's instructions (thanks John!), so I won't mind too much if they don't last as long as the OEM ones. I'm sure I'll need to get back in there for something else before then anyway.

I'd venture a guess (without looking at mny records) that I have probably close to 10K on these MM's at this point.

Thanks for the info. They are installed now, and...

Whoa, what a difference!
