The outside air temperature displayed on the instrument panel of my 89 GT is consistently about 4-5 degrees above ambient. Is there a calibration procedure? Can't find it in the manual. TIA

Colin,
No expert on this but the ambient air temperature is measured by the (OAT)Outside Air Temperature sender/switch .
I believe from 80' on thru 95' these senders are identical.
Location should be in, or, co-located with the alternator cooling hose. Look in front of left forward wheelwell splash shield - 2, or, 3 8mm screws.
To test, break out the ohm meter;
0 deg C = approx. 933 ohms
20 deg C = approx. 588 ohms
30 deg C = approx. 457 ohms
If you aren't sure what the sender looks like,
when you find a section of wire that looks/feels like a snake has swallowed a small field mouse you are on target.
As for calibrating out 3 to 5 degrees difference,
I don't think you can, but could be wrong.

I remember reading this manual( no longer have it) but can not remember if it answered your specific question. There is also a video on the same subject.

Maybe someone who has it can take a look.

On the '89 and up, there are two outside air temp sensors - the standard sensor for the HVAC, located in the alternator cooling hose, and the sensor for the digital dash read-out, located in the driver's side mirror.

I would also be very interested if anyone hs the calibration process for the temp read-out.

John, Jerry, Wally and others.
As always, thanks for your help. You have given me invaluable assistance through this board on several occasions. I'll go through the resistance values with the AVO but it sounds as Wally says that the sensor is the one in the mirror.(And I always thought it was a blob in the paint!!) Anyway it seems like the answer might be in the instrument manual if I can only get hold of one. Thanks again
