Question What is this part? Inner shift boot/seal/bellows?

Hi 928 Gurus,

I have the 5 speed and the inner shift "boot" is in really bad shape. The outer leather boot is now recoving nicely with some moisturizing, but the inner part needs replacing. I haven't the foggiest idea what this is called, but it looks like the rubber shift boots that were popular for a while.

Does anyone know what this part is called? One site has a "Shift Bellows" that sound like it might be the part, but there are no pictures.

Thanks!

Question

Hi Wally,

Thanks, but are you sure? I have the manual transmission, not the automatic. I guess it does look like the accordian-like boot on the auto 928s in a book that I have, but it seems odd that this would be the same part.

Thanks, and I'll take your word for it if you say it's the same part!

Greg, no, it's not flat and doesn't appear to have any sort of frame. It's a rubber "boot" that is under the leather boot. Mine has a few perforations and isn't holding it's shape up very well.

Ooops!

Sorry - I simply missed the "5 speed" part of your post!

Much more likely to be "Shifter - Boot - Inner Rubber Seal - All", P/N 928.424.181.04, about $8.

If you call Jeannie to order the part, be sure to tell her what you want, and have her double-check the P/N. (828) 766-9280

Since that part is so small, you might want to try to add some more small parts to the order, since there is a minimum shipping cost.

Hi Wally,

Thanks! I'm on the phone right now and have ordered quite a few things in the suspension and interior departments. Your site is dangerous to a car-nut like myself!
