Post 1980 Climate Control

While re-installing the Climate Control head on my 1980 Porsche 928, I noticed that the two rear cable connectors (the left a 15 pin, and the right a 10 pin connector) could be plugged into the printed circuit board in either of two positions. While the circuit board has slots to prevent attaching the connectors incorrectly, the flat, single array, connectors do not. You can rotate the connectors 180 degrees and still be able to make the connection. In the latter case, the wiring pinout would be reversed. The unit has never worked correctly, since I purchased the car, and I am wondering if the unit could have been wired wrong then. Does anyone have a correct pinout with respect to the slotted end of the circuit board? I can't see and pin numbers on the board, and the connectors have no distinguishing characteristics, either.

Henry:

I know on the 82 the connectors are "pinned" as to give correct orrientation. You only have four possible combinations, but when you're trouble shooting, it nice to eliminate the obvious. I'll check the manuals to see if I can find anything to point you in the right direction. Anyone with an 80 know for sure?

Got it! On the left connector (15 pin) pin 1 is on the back of the unit and pin 15 is toward the front. For the right (10 pin) it's reverse. Pin 10 in back, 1 in front.

For the 15 pin, pin 15 (furthest front) should correspond to a red wire. I don't believe there is a pin 1 (doesn't show) but pin 2 should be Brown.

For the 10 pin, pin 1 is Black and Pin 10 is Blue.

This is according to the wiring diagrams for the MY 80. Hope this helps.
