Default Accessing the windshield washer pump on an 84S

I have a major leak at the location of the washer pump. This dang thing is located directly under a cooling line and I can't seem to get a hand on it from above. So too, it's too high to be accessed from below.

It seems like this pump is only held in place by some rubber plugs that stick through the inner fender well.

Anyone BTDT. Can I just yank the sucka?

GO CUBS!

Peace,
Tim

You dont even have the brake master cylinder to fight with (as in RHD)! What a wuss!
Go under the guard and push the rubber nipples through from there, and it will then wriggle out enough to disconnect the pipes and wiring.

I did the same. Just push from the inside. I couldn't get it back in so I just have it tie wrapped. It was a used pump, so I figured I would be doin' it again soon. Wasn't that painful though.

Tim,
I am sending you an 87 reservoir which has the pump embedded into the side of it.
I started checking the upgrade out and it looks like it will work.
You need to extend the wires from the PITA pump position back to the reservoir to connect to the new pump position.
I am also sending you an older style reservoir in case the 1st plan does not work out.
Anyone else BTDT?

When you remove the pump you take a small flat screw driver and work your way around the rubber plug pushing towards the center. The rubber plug is a cone that has a relief at the back. The rubber is pulled through until the shoulder pops through.

Removal requires that you take that excess material and squish it back through the small hole. Once you get started it becomes fairly obvious. You work your way around pushing the rubber into the hole.

Hopefully that makes some sense

Removal is pretty easy, but a bit of lubrication eases installation . Once the tip of the rubber is through the hole, it can be pulled through from under the fender, as long as the rubber isnt perished or fragile with age and heat.
