I will bet even after motor mounts the thing will still elak hot air. if you are getting this much it is probably coming in from the firewall too.

You're probably right Dan, but I have checked the firewall and there are no unusual holes or holes without grommets. On a hot day, I put a towel on the console and even over the shifter to keep it cool enough to touch. If I leave the sunroof and windows closed, it is OK. So I keep the AC functional. Twice I have lost the AC, once in Florida and once in Nevada, both times during the middle of Summer. That was an ordeal.

On mine I don't feel air flowing in it just appears to just be the firewall radiating heat from the engine compartment. Jason

There is a rubber gasket to seal the engine compartment from the HVAC system. The hood closes down on the rubber gasket and cuts off air flow. WIthout the gasket there is a lot of hot air flowing to the HVAC section.

On the older cars it is common for the gromet on the firewall on the driver's side to come loose. I managed to push mine back in place and used some silicon to hold it in place.

Exhaust heat shields are important. When people work on the exhaust system some times the shields get left off.

When set right there should be no hot air leaking into the ccompartment.

I am looking for a few parts for the older cars - 78-79.

1. High side A/C hose. Any condition. I need the long end that goes to the compressor. This is the end that is about 4 inches long and has a slight offset about half way through.

2. The bracket under the rear of the torque tube. The newer ones are flat, but the older one that I need has a couple of angles on it. The piece is about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide and bolts to the chassis just under the torque tube on the rear just before the transmission.

3. Flywheel for a 78-79 Five Speed - the one with the lip on it. The one I have has some blue marks and what looks like a crack from abuse.

4. A left rear seat bottom in Cork - you know the tan / orange color used on the early cars.

Heat does enter my interior from the firewall also -- may be the nature of the beast.

I also had some hot air leakage through my vents due to the heater valve not closing. I replaced the valve and thought the issue was solved. I later learned the issue was vacuum not the valve - hot air continued to leak in. What I found was that the cam on my AC control head had become loose over time and the slider would not completely "seat" the actuator when pushed all the way to the left. This was causing loss of vacuum ot the heater valve.

My Hvac control is also worn. It's on my list to get a new one or at least a better condition used one. Jason

Scott, if you or anyone else knows how to solve my problem, please let me know.

When not on the recirculate setting (all the way left on my '91 GT), the center vent leaks hot air through the bottom vent grille. I get cool fresh air through the top vent grille. I assume there is a valve that is not closing all the way. During the cooler months, this is no big deal, but if there is a relatively simple / inexpensive fix, I'll do it.
