Post window switch removal

Is it necessary to remove the entire center console (I read the Nichols write up on the removal) to replace the window/sunroof switches? Or is there another method?

No, but the job goes much easier with it out. The routing is critcal to the AT shifter operation. Since I still remember the cussing I did when I replaced my switches without pulling the console I suggest you pull it. It's not difficult to do. I followed Greg's tips when I replaced the center vent vacuum pod.

Good luck.

No, it is not necessary. You do have to remove the side panels to the console. Drivers side panel for the left window and sunroof and passenger side for the right side and wiper. Just slide thin screw drive under the back side of the switch and push in and lift at the same time. Pops right out. Depending on the PO as to whether the wires were cut or the AMP fitting is still there. If the AMP connector is still there you will need the "Lisle" connector disassembler to get them apart. Works like a charm.

I agree with Bill. I just replaced my drivers side window switch and did not remove the entire console. Just the side panels. About a 15-20 minute job. Good luck with your project! <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
