Post Coil Spring Compressor

Any recommendations on coil spring compressors for our beasts? I've used a couple different kinds on McPherson struts but not sure if there's any special requirements for our coil springs. I've found both the old stand-by threaded bars with hooks as well as a 'clam shell' compressor. Is the threaded bar/hook tool adequate?

TIA

Mike - You may want to try 3 threaded bars instead of just 2. My first attempt with just 2 bars to compress some Eibach springs failed when 1 of the threaded hooks stripped. I then went to a different tool rental place and they had a 3 bar setup that was much easier to compress and safer since the springs did not try to jump out under compression. Either way you'll want to have a bowl of Wheaties before you start. Good luck!

I used those Napa spring compressors and had a semi permanant Thread pitch mark in my hand when it twisted and came off. Flipped around and took some flesh <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> .
If I had a three screw I would have used it for sure. Hell of a lot safer.

Thanks for the input guys. I've used the bar/hooks tool many times when I wrenched on 240Z's and always had good luck. 'Course, spring rates were pretty different compared to the 928's. Wish I could justify one of those fancy-smancy hydraulic beasts but the rev-limiter (wife) would never go for it. Fixin to do all four corners on the 83 Euro so will let you know how it goes.

wear gloves and stuff some rags down the front of your pants. thread marks would be the least of your concerns following recovery from unconciousness.
