I was shooting in the dark, and what you say makes sense, Bob.
It will be hell or high water before I hold a hose over my engine again.
BTW, never messed with a Saab 900 clutch, but if I recall, the water pump was incredibly accessible & easy to replace (so long as you had a reverse thread, tripod mount puller - also good for a TR7)....otherwise impossible.
