Default Leather interior

I am looking at getting the interior redone in my car. As I was looking things over I noticed that everything is leather except the pod, the pod is vinyl. Is this normal or did a previous owner redo the interior in leather and forgot/didn't want to do the pod?

Leather pod was very expensive option. Pod is much rarer to have in leather than just dash which was expensive option in itself.

does anyone have pics of a leather pod and dash installed in their car?? With the leather being thicker than the vinyl, is there any rubbing issues between the pod and dash?

If the pod is properly adjusted, there is no reason for any rubbing.

Porsche did make and install leather pods in 928s. They had problems with glue at one point, and the foam technology they used was still quite new at the time, so the results were not always up to par.

But to answer your question, it is quite possible to have a leather pod and a leather dash together. That was the original plan in fact, and the goal for many in their current restoration projects.

The vinyl pod to me just dosen't look right with everything else being leather. Is the pod usually black vinyl or do they come in different colors. Right now I have a black pod and everything else is brown leather. I am thinking of just doing everything in black leather.

Most early cars had black vinyl pods, whatever the color of the rest of the interior. When the pod is leather, then it is made to match the dash.

Leather pods from the factory are in fact standard vinyl pods with a leather cover.

My pod is in perfect condition in black vinyl. If I wanted to redo it in leather do I have to rip the vinyl off or can it be left on and have the leather put over top?

Or it could be contrasting color or whatever buyer ordered. Different color is very rare though among rare leather pods.

An intact vinyl pod is rare and worth a fair amount of money. I would keep it or sell it and then have a pod that was well repaired, covered to my specifications.

Almost every pod I recover had cracks. The surface is repaired and sealed prior to the leather work.

True. I get more and more requests for suede or Alcantara pods. Especially for track cars, as it cuts down on glare.

My '90 had a leather pod which had come away at the windscrren end. I still have the leather but had it recovered in vinyl as was MUCH cheaper. The dash is vinyl however.

Mine is all leather, pod ...and horn push, which I have not seen anywhere else. Just last weekend I saw another leather dash in excellent condition (second one so far - most are damaged here). This one had a vinyl pod though.

My vinyl pod is black and in mint shape, no cracks. Maybe I will sell it and purchase a recovered leather one. Might save me alot of work and the possibility of screwing up putting on a new pod cover. I plan on redoing most of the interior this winter. I just hope in the spring I will remember where everything goes......
