Question Side Miror Replacement

Nothing like closing the driver's side door and having the glass from the side mirror fall out and shatter. I am now about 4 weeks into my 7 years of bad luck.

The good news? The replacement arrived and I am wondering if there is someone who has experience removing the old one. Appears to "snap" in but how is the old one "unsnapped?" I have screw drivers, pliers, a crow bar and a blow torch so with a little direction ...

Thanks in advance.

Cool

Wow Patrick,

Finally an easy one. Just tilt the top edge of mirror's black plastic backing plate towards you. Insert a wide putty knife behind the backing plate. Lever the knife handle toward you.

Patrick,
Step away from the crowbar and blowtorch.... and no one (including your car)
will get hurt !!!
Thom's suggestion of the wide putty knife will work much better, try it.

WARNING: This is true only up thru '86!

The S4 mirrors use a locking ring that is turned thru a hole in the bottom of the housing to release the mirror.

My passenger mirror recently came off (didn't break) and there was another mirror under it. It doesn't have the wide angle view or the writing on it. I just cleaned it up and am using it. The drivers side also has another mirror under it, upon closer inspection. Is this common to older 928's?

Thanks guys! The procedure was a success. Glad I posted before renting the jaws of life. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
