Post Euro WUR

Greetings,

Several months ago my car met with an unfortunate 'tainted fuel' problem which resulted in replacement of almost the entire fuel system. The mechanic who did the work, citing lack of part availability, replaced my warm up regulator with a 911 CIS type which he claimed to have "adjusted" to be within 928 specs. Since then, the car has never run properly - and I've decided that this is something I need to sleuth out myself. One of the first things I want to do is to replace the WUR with the correct part (I know... it *shouldn't* make that big a difference but...) but it would seem that EURO 4.7 spec CIS 928 WUR's are scarce as hen's teeth. If anybody has one laying around, please contact me - esp. international folks! Thanks in advance!

Brian,
I blew up my WUR last year, and Erik in Denmark donated his, which is still working well. You need to get access to a gauge and measure the pressures cold and warm, then you will know where you are. My Watson book gives 41-46psi hot. Mine runs fine at 50 psi with vacuum connected. If you are low on power, rough running, the normal bet would be high control pressure -up towards 60psi will do it (BTDT). Mine was caused by crap clogging the inlet filter (metal gauze). If you hot pressure is low, it will run rich. This can be corrected by tapping the iron insert in the WUR inwards - mine has about 1mm proud above the die cast body. This is about the ONLY way they can be adjusted as such, the basics are set by the springs and bimettallic strip inside.

Fuel pressure settings for both cold start enrichment and hot run can be adjusted.Yes the iron "insert" adjusts the hot run pressure and most CIS fuel systems use about the same spec for hot run and the aluminum plug sets the cold run fuel pressure and the lower that it is recessed into the housing the lower the control pressure will be enrichment on cold starts. Most 928 CIS cars that I have known over the years will not run good with the pressure set at "spec" due to emissions regs.I have run the control pressure on my 79 928 at 1.5 BAR at a cold temp of 40 degrees for the last 12 years and the car has always started good with no stalling and backfiring and had immediate drivabilty in any weather conditions.
