Question Speed Question

My speedo in not working at the moment. How fast am I cruising in 5th gear and the revs are at 3000 and then also at 3500? And one other question. My gas guage is on 0 when the lights are off and then pops up to 2/4 when I turn them on. Bad circut board?

Chucker,
The 'timed' acceleration curve -rpmvsmph out of the 82' owners manual is:
928 - 5th gear, 3000rpm = 120mph
928 - 5th gear, 3500rpm = close to 126mph

928 S - 5th gear, 3000rpm = close to 131/132 mph
928 S - 5th gear, 3500rpm = 146-147 mph
I figure with the comp package you are running close to the euro 300hp output,
if not you will still be higher than a plain 928.
Rear ends are a story that wally, Steve, Ed and Jim Bailey will have to fill in.
These speeds are as mentioned, 'timed'. I am assuming these are full power runs so the 'Cruise'
rpm vs mph will probably differ a bit.
Say! Why would someone want to know?

3000 RPM in my 82 Auto is dead even 80mph.

John, I think you might be reading the km/h line from the manual page 94 - I read ~81mph for 3K and ~92mph @3500 revs for the 5sp from my 82 manual.

I suspect Chucker wants to know cause he lives in MI. Spent last weekend driving around up there, 3000 RPM is just keeping up with the flow of traffic on most highways. Cops seem fairly 'Automobile sensitive' in MI, a great drive if you can avoid the potholes.

Russ82,
Korrecto-Mundo, thanks for correction.
Sort of...
Was reading times at bottom of pg(s) 94/95 as abbreviated rpm.
Chucker,
Times are as Russ82 indicates. What does the 'comp pkg' consist of? Any weight difference like the CLUB?.
Still unsure of trans/diff. changes if any or your approx. hp.

From the info on 928 Specialists website, the '82's have a 2.75 rear ratio except for an optional euro only ratio of 2.27.

This is very similar to the 2.73 in my GT. I am at 75mph @ 3000 and 90mph @ 3500. My tire diameter is ~25.7 You should be very close to these figures unless our top trans gear is different.

Hey thanks guys. I guess I'm going too fast. Yes the roads in Michigan suck and they are even worse in Northern Michigan. John the "Comp Package" is on the 928s4vr web site. It looks like the S but not the engine included. In fact I had someone try to tell me at a resturant tonight that it was a 928s and not the 928. So I said o.k.
