Agreed with tdelarm. In theory, a new water pump COULD cost you a grand at a shop. This is assuming the shop goes ahead and does all the other stuff that might as well be done at the same time like the belt, tensioner, etc. Between parts and labor, I could see it costing that much in the end.
Personally, I'm not 100% on Greg's list, but close. The difference is, that I want to learn and sharpen some of the skills I have let collect dust for years on end. (WARNING: Newbie questions and calls for help are sure to follow!)

Greg's comments perhaps should be part of the information sent to those who ask " I am a thinking about buying a 928 what should I look for ? " . There is optimism , cynicism , and realism . Greg's thoughts in my opinion fall in the later category .
