Okay, this is a sob story, no doubt. Went to pick up my shark from the PO yesterday. Had to install a new thermostat & seal, fill the radiator, and I would be on my way. Or so I thought.
Old thermostat out, new one in, I went to tighten the bolts on the thermostat housing. Upper right bolt ok. Lower left -- SNAP! I'm not a big guy, but this puppy snapped right off. Okay, maybe it is held on enough to get it home. Added the antifreeze and distilled water until it wouldn't take any more and fired it up.
Antifreeze comes jeting out of the back of the thermostat housing from a burst hose that leads to a T in a line from the radiator to the overflow tank. Trying to get at it, I pushed a little too hard on another hose running to a yellowish plastic tube just under the spider on the passenger side. SNAP! It breaks off at the tube end, taking the nipple with it. (Hope this is a vaccuum line!)
The burst hose crumbles in my hand once I get to it, and the sun sinks below the mountain range. Here I am, broken shark, 100 miles from home, in a strange city, at 7:30 on a Saturday night, with no idea where the nearest auto parts store is.
Now that I have drown my sorrows in a few bottles of beer, <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" /> any have an idea what that plastic tube is? It reminds me of a fake Christmas tree spine, with several black hoses connecting to it. I am trying to find a picture of it in the manual, but no luck so far.
Thanks!

You might want to investigate why all the hoses are so brittle? Maybe the shark you purchased has been running extremely hot for a long period of time. Might want to check the fan, the water pump. If all the vac lines are intact and connected to all the devices they should be connected too. If you just replace the hoses without trying to investigate why everything is so brittle, you might have a very big problem creep up on you in a hurry.
Just my $.02 worth.
Hope it is just a few old hoses for you.

Thanks Doz! I am pretty sure of the reason. I got the car because of a heat problem that turned out to the a bad thermostat (Once replaced, it doesn't get really hot any more.) Also, it was stored in AZ for a a couple of years. Some of the hoses are certainyl due for replacement.

Cobey,
It sounds like the multiple T connection that supplies vacuum to the auxillary air valve, A/C idle air solenoid and the power brake booster check valve. Better repair or replace it before trying to drive it.

Just bought and replaced that brittle little part myself, $11.00 from 928 International. Distributing Piece, 928-110-439-00. If your hoses are original as mine were, you need to replace all the hoses and vacuum lines. Most all of mine broke or crumbled taking them off. It's not just the heat but the age.

Try Illustration 813-25 page 001. Call me crazy, but the first thing I did when I got the PET CD was print it out. It fills a 3 inch binder, but works for me.

I don't have the PET. What I think it is can be found in vol 4 of the manuals, pg 87-68, part # 10. It is part of the 'electric air valve' but I am not sure what exactly it is connecting to where it broke off.

Yeah. Trying to get the car out today. I am going over to install the new hose in a few minutes, and will take the camera with me. If you look at the mnual page, the part I think I broke off is the little nipple where it shows the hose (part # 5 ) going to.
Wish me luck!
