Thumbs up DEVEK DAYS--First Time as an Owner

I thought I would just post a bit to give all of you who have never been just a bit of a feeling for what the event is like--especially those out there considering the big jump into ownership. Also I wanted to comment on the outstanding work of the DEVEK team.

Last year I came as an admirer of the car and potential shopper. I met Adam, Alex and a bunch of other people who patiently explained all of the variations in models and the relative merits of each. This year, I got to go back, having experienced a bad water pump, having heard what a "hornet's nest" fuel pump sounds like (not mine) and really getting "intimate" with my engine (100 hours of detailing with a toothbrush will do that). It was a GREAT feeling to share my pride and joy with people who really appreciated what is was and what I had done to put it in the shape it was.

As to the event itself, I really liked the tech sessions--especially George's tech session on interior restoration. He answered dozens of individual questions and I came away with a lot better knowledge of how to deal with some issues particular to my interior. George even came out to look at any issue on my car. All of the DEVEK team was VERY helpful to all participants. This only increased the next day.

At the track, I'm not sure of this, but I saw a LOT of DEVEK time going into helping people get cars fit for the track. Were they billing their time?? I don't think so--but it did not seem it to me. If that is the case, wow. Talk about customer service/support (who knows if they were even customers!). That is really going out of their way to make a good event.

As to the track itself, lets just say that the 928 is BETTER on the track than the street. It is exceptionally well balanced and "patient" with the most ham-fisted of drivers. It was a wonderful experience and thanks to Dennis and Brad for the very capable instruction (and ability to sit shotgun in my car while the White Car bore down on me and I got sloppy!).

So, a very enthusiastic thumbs up for Devek Days, the Devek team and the 928.

Now, about that red 5 speed I've been thinking about---we'll see. . .

Events like this past weekend's DEVEK days keep the 928 spirit alive - Thanks to all members of the DEVEK team for the wonderful weekend! Too bad I missed most of the Friday reception, and wasn't able to join for the fun drive and track day.

It was great to meet some of you "Rennlisters" in person for the first time - now I can put a face to the name.

Ketchmi: I will look for a white miniature 928S for you!

Dan Bise: I promise that next time I will spend more time talking with you than just a few minutes on my way out!

Similarly, it was great to see many fellow 928 enthusiasts again. I always enjoy your company!

Quinn: Good luck for your interior upgrade project. Now that you have the Momo wheel, you will soon feel the need for a matching shift ****, aluminum trim from Jager or 928 Specialists, the aluminum pedals from DEVEK, and so on... Once you start, it never ends. Hope you have fun!

Mike Schmidt: Thanks so much for the ongoing education in 928 mechanics. I learn something new from you every time! This time it was all about "breathing"...

Jessa: Good luck for elmininating the '82 model from your fleet. Make sure you take good care of the '80 and '84 models!

...and thanks to all not specifically mentioned, but no lesser wonderful people who made the event so much fun to be at.

Hope to see you all again soon!

Talking

Greetings !

To everyone at DEVEK, I can't tell you how much fun I had and how I appreciate everything that you do to keep the 928 community alive and running. Thank you very much !

This was my first time also as a 928 owner and I was blown away by it all. It was my second 928 gathering (the first being Sharks in the Park II) and what a sight it was to see and hear so many great looking cars in one place. Everyone is just so nice and eager to chat about anything 928.

Earlier in the week I had a family emergency (my mother passed away...) and the event really helped me get through this. I needed to be there and all of the people I talked to regarding their cars was just the thing to help take the edge off.

This is a community here and being able to see others and talk 928's with so many good people is something we should never take for granted.

Thanks DEVEK and thank you to everyone that I spoke to at the event. 928's and their owners... rule !

Hi Robert:

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. My condolences. I am glad we were able to cheer you up a little!

I almost forgot our 928 radio discussion... I owe you the contact info for the car audio and alarm specialists in San Carlos. They are located just down the street from DEVEK, and have worked on many 928s. Their service is great, and very professional.

The company is:

SoundWave on Brennan Street, San Carlos
Phone 650-593-7676

They are open Tuesday to Saturday.

Good luck!
