Post EBAY - 928 32v Hi-Po engine for sale

Just killing time browsing EBAY and came across this rebuilt-engine and thought someone might be interested. I don’t know the selling party. I personally am Leary of buying anything on EBAY based on recent posts of fraud so use this information at your own risk.

Good luck…

Cool

LOL!

I read in one of the British VW magazines a few months back where some guy had shoehorned a 5.0 liter Ford V8 into a Mk1 Golf [Rabbit], using floorboards/tranny/rear axle from a Mustang. In typical British understatement, it was described as having "rather strong power-on oversteer"....

Check his other curent auctions.

From a Devek performance 928 engine to a Dennis Rodman action figure. Gotta be an interesting person.

Engine is worth a serious look. Wouldn't there have be a few mods to get this 88 engine in an older car?

On the surface it looks like a plan Jane pull out motor. If someone could get the name of the shop that did the work and a copy of the sales tickets, one could find out if this is a scam or not. That DEVEK strocker crank would be an ease one to trace, Devek knows were they all went to.

Thats is correct Max, right now we are aware of only one "loose" crank that was sold to a person in Pa. years ago and never made it into an engine....

Buyer beware......please check out your purchase or at least ask the right questions....like why the oil pan is so dirty..it is hard to assembly an engine with dirty parts, or cracked plug wires...

If you can get hte serial number formt he crank, let me know and I can confirm that it is a DEVEK crank and not a 6 cwt crank...

Well, first I’d like to see the “1996 Secret Society Shark Owners Club” to finally step forward as it time to come out of the closet!

“Ready to drop into your 1977 to 1996 Porsche 928”

Sounds like they may have had a client/vender issue of some sorts. They state that the engine was built for a client.

“Client required a sleeper" look, so no external polishing or dress up was done”

Who knows, it could be a deal or not. They have the location listed as “Hollywood” and then state it can be picked up in Milwaukee-Chicago area. Where’s that?

I think if someone was serious about this engine, all documents need verification including parts/labor invoices and dyno sheets. A follow-up call to Devek for confirmation of parts ordered/shipped. A BBB check on the shop “Andial” and “High Performance” plus a chat with their “Porsche specialist” that performed work and, a reason as to why the original transaction was not completed.

For $4 grand this could be a great catch but how the hell do you do the above when it’s listed as an EBAY item and you’re out of state?

Personally, I think it would fit nicely in an old “AMC Pacer”…at least the rear windows kind of look like a shark from the rear.

I'm sure its legit but I don't know why!?! Seems to know all the correct buzzwords and yet its obvious he doesn't really know the 928 (1996?). You could ask to see it dynoed I guess. They say they used Genuine Porsche Parts when they did the headwork - does this sound right, are there Genuin Porsche titanium valves? Also, he doesn't state the displacement and less than 400 horses from an engine dyno sounds too low. Wonder if the cams are stock?

Ok, I drop Mr.F550 an email:

Max
Would your please send me a copy of your DEVEK rec. What is the name of the shop that did all the work?

Mr.F550
We have no documentation with this engine. This is why we are selling
it as is, with no warranties of merchantabilities. That is not to say
it isn't what the listing states, but we can only document what we saw,
rather than through paperwork. The former client solely contracted with
Devek and Andial for the work, and we merely assembled it and were to
install it in his vehicle.

Max
Please put me in contact with the owner, I need to be able to verify the components.

Mr.F550
Leave me a phone number and I will contact you...

Max
***-***-****

Mr.F550
?????????(No phone call as of yet)

Max (email)
What state was the work done in and what state is the owner from?

Mr.F550 (email)
?????????(No answer)

You draw your own conclusions, I say "BUYER BEWARE"

This guy is making this too easy.

Look at this:

Current high bidder is "swimalday (1)". The only thing this ebay "name" has bought, is an item from "ferrarifixer" the seller of the 928 motor.

Could this be the same person?
Could this be a little shill bidding?

This auction is getting to stink really bad?

P.S. still no phone call and on other email contact.

Late yesterday I receive a call from Mr. F550. I have to say; my first impression on this auction has not changed. Mr. F550 did a lot of double-talking during the short conversation. First he said they just install the heads on a short block, than he said they built the short block. Mr F550 did say somthing that was kind of stange, he said the block had all the cylinders sleved. He just didn’t make me feel very secure about dropping 4G’s on this pull out. If one could get this one for around 900-1G shipped to the garage door (shipping included). It might be worth a chance.

Unless you live close enough that you can go take a look at this one first hand, “BUYER BEWARE”

I feel for those who are bidding on this one that don't read the Rennlist

Sounds like even at $900-1k, that it should be taken down and checked thoroughly. Probably a total waste of time.

As monty python would say.."RUNAWAY...RUNAWAY!!!"

I wouldnt touch it if you gave it to me. Sounds way to shoddy.

For sale, CAN OF WORMS:
stroker motor. Im not sure of the current displacement, or where it was built but it pulled really hard in the last car it was in. The motor isnt clean as i wanted the buyer to see it in its original everyday condition. No records, sorry, the goldfish ate them.
