On the road again
Hello again Rennlist.
You haven't heard from me since December.
Reason: I crashed it, and my enthusiasm has been blunted by worrying about whether it would ever be the same again. To cut a long story short I skidded it into a kerb. damaging both the left wheels and left suspension. To get it right required repair of both left wheels (CS style, very difficult to find). Replacement of both rear control arms and the half-axle, and replacement of the front lower wishbone and droplink. The chassis was checked on a Car-O-Liner jig and pronounced straight. Fortunately there was no body damage except to the chin spoiler whilst getting it onto a lowbed truck. Repairs took four sickening months to the day! Not fun.
Visually, the repair of the wheels is spectacular. They look like new and I have very reassuring reports concerning the strength of the welded-in metal.None the less I will replace them at some future stage when I can find undamaged wheels. Sourcing the other parts (secondhand - new was beyond my pocket) has been very time consuming and a major headache but Jim Morehouse's PET5 and service manual CD has been a Godsend. I'm very pleased to report that as of today the car is back on the road and it feels every bit as good as before. I drove about 100km today with only one minor irritation probably unconnected with the crash. With ignition on the indicator warning light on the instrument panel flashes double-speed continuously except when the indicators are in use. Then it works normally as do the indicators themselves. All 6 bulbs are bright and the relay is secure and ticks away very strongly even after much wiggling. Any ideas appreciated.
I've been keeping an occasional lazy eye on Rennlist but didn't feel like posting 'till today when I knew I'd be keeping the car. It feels good to be back. Pleased to see lots of new names. My membership fee will follow soon.

One of life's many small sadnesses, an apt observation that sounds much better in Spanish.
It's a bummer being 'down'for anything.
Glad you are rolling again but keep looking for replacement wheels.
Enjoy!
