Post Fuel rail clean-up?

The next thing lined up in the engine bay for a bit of cosmetic attention is my fuel rails & pipes. I'm thinking of chrome plating them, but this would mean having to get those captive nuts seperated before plating to avoid it all clumping together, is this do-able?

On Randy's engine (go on - post your picture again! you know you wan't to!) it looks as if the rails are polished. But i'm assuming the rails/pipes are steel, so isn't this going to need some kind of surface coating to avoid rust?

My damper and pressure regulators are black with baked on crud so even though they still function well I'm probably going to replace them - can't do any harm after 16 years of use - they will look a whole lot better and should last another 16!

cheers
Dave

I doubt you will be able to get the captive nuts off. I know a person or 2 that have opted for nickel plating. Not quite as flashy as chrome but yields very nice results. Since the plating is a thin dip process, they had no issues with clumping. I had a similiar problem with my rails after powdercoating. They aren't perfect but look decent enough for me.
