Took my car for its first drive the other night after the supercharger install, all was going great, it was just a gentle shake down drive etc, close to home i started to hear the power steering groaning, got home lifted hood and what a mess powersteering fluid all over the place and the vortech pulley had moved right to the end its snout and the belt worn in half.

The pulley has eaten into the top part of the bottom water hose

I have not looked any further as to why i have a pas leak

Vortech's website state either an alignment issue or over tensioned belt which it wasnt.

How do i correct an alignment issue with the belt

I do have pics but dont know how to post them

That does not sound like a great first drive!

As to the vortech pulley, is the pulley still bolted tight to the SC shaft? It needs to bottom out on the shaft when bolted up. I would start there, loosen the belt and tighten up that bolt (if it has not backed out and disappeared). Once that pulley is bolted up tight, replace the belt and check for good alignment on the rollers, tensioner, and crank pulley with the engine idling. I wouldn't run the car with a chewed up belt, get a replacement.

The bottom water hose: is it the '85-'86 hose? Pretty sure that is what I had to use, it had better clearance and was supplied with the kit. I may have also placed a zip tie to keep the clearance even better to prevent any possible issues.

Power steering leak: I don't know there; I would degrease the area, check the hoses and cap for leaks. The only thing you should have done was put on a spacer and replace the belt there. Also, check the oil feed line for clearance....

I had the same issue. I heard a weird noise and the pulley had moved along the nose until it was rubbing against the radiator hose clamp. I replaced the pulley and loctited the pulley bolt and haven't had an issue since.

The SC pulley bolt must have gotten loose somehow. Either is wasn’t tightened properly or is vibrated loose. Try the suggestion above and use some locktite.

The pulley bolt was just left on its last few threads, finger tight, i cant see any damage to the bolt but havent looked inside the nose for any thread damage.

Jim i brought a spare belt as i kinda expected a belt chewing at somepoint, what does your supercharger sound like when running ?

That's an easy fix for the belt alignment. I doubt the nose threads are damaged, just thread it back in and if it feels good, don't worry about it. Maybe some light grade locktight would be a good idea, I have not needed it, but it can't hurt.

As far as sound, mine has a nice whine with the hood up, not too loud with the hood closes or inside the car, but enough to know something evil is lurking under the hood.

My experience with the Tech support people at Vortech has been totally positive. My Excursion threw one belt, and they assisted us with the alignment and no problems since that time.

That's Jim's car on the dyno. The winding down kind of whistling noise after the pulls are the dyno rollers still spinning and slowing down.

I have the whine and i did have a squeal when the tension was slack, but does v2 have a metalic whine groan to it up close and before you ask yes it is getting oil

Get that pulley back on and change that belt!

There is definitely a high pitch type whine from the blower when you are up close. That is normal for the V2. The squeal is a loose belt trying to spin the blower, no such noise when the belt is tensioned properly.

Got the old belt off today, cleaned things up and found the key for the pulley is missing.

Thought i'd try the new belt but couldnt get that on even with the tensioner rod pushed back and dipstick tube removed to go back further, will give it another try in the morning and another look for the key.

You need to get another key for the keyway or the pulley will probably just spin on the shaft. I just went out to the garage and checked a spare pulley for my car, and the keyway looks to be about 3/16" or a hair under 5 mm square stock. If you can't get that or fab it up locally, I'd get in touch with Tim to get a new piece mailed out.

As for the belt, I've never had to pull the dipstick tube to put one on. A new belt can be a pain to fit, but not that bad. How did you get the first one on?

Harbor Freight should has a variety of keys in stock. They usually sell them in a box that has about a dozen different standard sizes and about a dozen on each size. They are cheap, ~$10 for the entire box.

Whaterver you do, don't run it without the key. If the pulley spins it can damage the SC shaft and that can ruin it.

I dont think it has spun on the shaft, but i will have a closer look


The belt i have is a NAPA 25-080415 will try and fit it again today
