Red face t belt serv gone bad need 928 specialist to sort out

I had a t belt serviced in my 88 928s4 runs like **** the car has been at the shop for 3 months and they can`t get it to run right. they may have timed it wrong and bent a valve they tried to push the car back on me first saying that there was nothin wrong and that is the way it runs .I insisted to go back and check work they did i came back and the eng inproved but was sluggish lack of power and was not smooth thru the rpm range. I have a need for a 928 specialist that can diagnois this problem determine if there is any slight or major eng damage . I will ship this car if needed .I am at my last straw .. I can try legal action but my car still has no where to go .nobody good left.as 928 ownwers we have to stick together to weed out such incopitence so we can have happy break down free driving
and good running 928`s.I need some help and i appeal this community to come thru
not for me , but for all of us who have to deal with such an injustice....this is no joke you some day may be faced with my situation and I will give it my all to help my fellow shark owner.don`t you just get pissed when you read something like this happen.

Bob,

I suggest you take your car out Jorge & Jack's. It's out on Rt 46 and they have plenty of experience with 928s. Have whatever new shop you take your car to, document their work as they pull it apart to find whatever is wrong or was done wrong.

You should've pulled your car out of that shop 2 months and 27 days after it went in truth be told. Lastly, exactly which shop in Jersey did this to your car? No use covering for them anymore.

PAR Porsche in New Rochelle NY(not that far from Bayonne) did great work on my 87 S4 which suffered from a lot of problems...
most related to being under-used at 27K miles.
I wish I had used them for my pre-purchase
inspection.I used a dealer,Pepe Porsche, who proved to me that they know nothing about 928s.
Do try Par if NY is not too far.

I-Service Imports in Cherry Hill, NJ. Is a great independent shop in south jersey. Ask for Fred, the owner.

I bought my car from Par Porsche, so that's as good a place as any. High work rate per hour though. Likewise Danbury Porsche didn't do such a good job on my car for the previous owner. Anyway, try the suggestions we just posted. One more whining comment about your car still being in that shop and you'll be hunted down.

This is precisely the reason why I decided to perform all of the maintenance on my Shark myself.

If your car ran fine before the Tbelt job...I would tend to think something either associated with the valve timing....or possibly they fried the LH Brain in the process of the Tbelt job by not disconnecting the battery and shorting something out in the removal/install process. You might try locating another 88 LH Brain and swapping it out to check performance. A rebuilt unit from 928 Intewrnational is ~$1100. Another plqace outside Chicago called Partwerks (look in Pano for specific contact details) can provide the same unit for ~$500.

A gross check of the timing belt can be made examining the marks on the cam gears and compared to the harmonic balancer. Provided that the shop didn't loosen the cam gear bolts, the cams should still be in precise time.

A compression check would need to be performed to detect a bent valve if the timing was performed improperly. This can be done by any competent mechanic and would be very useful.

Should the unthinkable bent valve scenario develope, be sure to document as much as possible in the event that you must seek compensation. The cost associated with this type of repair can be very expensive ($6-8K if you pay for it to be completed).

sorry to hear about your misfortune....
