I've been told that bad coils show mainly at high rpms, as they can't keep up with the demand then. You'd see your engine missing.
My rough idle was not caused by bad coils, and replacing them as a preventive measure did not change anything. Well, at least I now have two shiny new things in my engine compartment...

The PRIMARY should have a resistance between .33 and .46 ohms. The SECONDARY should have a resistance between 7000 and 12000 ohms. (page 28-13 in Ignition systems if you have one).
The little resistors mounted on top are .35-.45
ohms for each one.
