Question Replacing the Hood Badge

Hello,

Replacing my hood badge and I need some help. In looking at the currently installed badge (for removal), there appear to be two nuts which are on the spokes holding the badge to the hood. The only problems are:
1.) The spokes do not appear to be threaded.
2.) There is almost NO clearance to slip a deep-socket in to work with these "nuts".

I seem to recall a post a while ago about these fasteners being "quick release" nuts or something like that... can anybody tell me how to get them off and then back on again once my new hood badge is on? Thanks!

Brian,

You are correct, there is no threading on the post. It's OK, the nuts do the work.

I installed a new badge and promptly had to remove it to flip over the *!@$%%! rubber gasket. The nuts unscrewed off and rescrewed on. On a car that has had them on for a while, they just may twist the posts off when you try to remove them. If it is time to replace it anyway, you might want to have one handy...

I used a 1/4" drive socket (don't recall, I think those speed nuts were 10MM) and just loosened them like they were on to a threaded bolt. You can (theoretically, anyway) push them straight on, but you can't pull them straight off. (YMMV). Kind of a PITA, as you get to work upside down with the hood up, but there are far worse tasks on the car.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTORQUE!!! The hood badge pins are absolutely fragile. Tight enough to hold the badge down snug is tight enough.

HTH,

Greg

Brian,

Glad to hear it went well. Post some pix of the shiny happy 928 if you can - a freshly painted car is a wonderful thing!
