Holy thread resurrection! But it's the Easter season, so I guess that's ok.

I'm new to the site, and wanted to say my 85 928 has 279000.. and so far I'm very impressed by the whole car.. I bought from a small car lot in Ca. ..Two owners since new first guy drove it to 93000,, and next to 275k Price was low ,,, but the car is in prefect condition ... If I can say it ,, you guys ,, this site,,, made me decide to take the chance to own what I've always considered my dream car.. Thanks

My '85 shows 75k on the broken odo, I have had to do all the need to things to this point.
A non maintenance record 928 would be high mileage @ 75K In My Honest Opinion.

I purchased my "87" in 2012 @ 109,218 miles. Complete maintenance records from day 1. The biggest problem was that the 2nd PO had only driven it for a total of 11,000 miles between 2005 and 2012 when I bought it.
Minor routine maintenance and state inspections had been performed but nothing else. Interior/exterior was excellent but even though the underside and engine bay looked great, I knew from spending a year on this site that a complete replacement of belts, hoses, and various electrical component would be needed.
13 months from purchase I finally completed everything and drove my 928 for the 2nd time. ( first time was a short 10 mile test drive and PPI).
Since then I have put over 7 thousand problem free miles on her.
" Maintenance history is everything, everything is maintenance history" Mileage is only a number if the car has been properly maintained.

Ditto. Maintenance over mileage. I bought my 928 S4 MY89 4 years ago with 170,000kms (about 105,000 miles) and with good maintenance records and money being spent. It now has 235,000kms (146,000 miles) and going strong with little money spent in the meantime BUT regular oil/fluid changes and using a good quality (hi viscosity + hi ZDDP) oil. About 90% of the miles are highway miles traveling between Melbourne & Canberra plus the occasional Porsche Club and Frenzy runs :-D
I have heard it quoted that these engines are a good/reliable 500,000kms engine before any major pull down. This assumes proper maintenance and ESPECIALLY fluid changes e.g. oil
Cheers

One of his is, but we have a friend here who has one that he retired at 600k and his other one at 425k. The drivetrains were not worn out but the interiors are. We've all talked about getting them back on the road but with everything else going on they are low on the list.
