Mn. & W. Wi 928 Fun Run June 14th
MN & Western WI 928 owners,
Normally Noel does the organizing, but we're puting together a fun run around the MN & WI river valley, for those of you who like running the twisties. It's informal, just show up and try to keep up with the shark in front of you.
If you're interested, just e-mail me back so we' ll know to look for you. - Ruf (rcsanders1@mmm.com)

Is that the lake Pepin area? My uncle owns an orchard near Maiden Rock, and I can see why you'd want to take a 928 along those roads (big, wide curves with good views out for any LE that might be waiting).

Flint:
Correct, just south of Lake Pepin (Wabasha, MN). Blasting through the Mississippi river valley to lighter traffic roads in W. WI. Can you make the 390 mile trip up north? You should be able to make it in about 2 1/2 hours if you keep the Shark going at about 150 mph.

A trip I've made often. My cousins (from St Paul) and I play paintball in that orchard various weekends during the summer, so I have plenty of reasons to go up. I'll have to see how my schedule falls first (Omaha municipal employees like myself just had another big bombshell dropped on us about our budget--thus, BIG staff changes).

Flint, yes, it's very near Lake Pepin, as Don says. Please try to make it if you can. It's the first time for such a thing, but I've dahsed around on these roads alot and just love it. - Ruf

We need to have a get together pretty soon. I will be leaving for San Fran in August. I just got dissapointed when the last meeting we had was just Kim and myself. I sent out a few reminders and no one else showed. Kim Crumb has done alot but I need help from everyone else. I can't do it alone.

Sounds good to me. We do lean heavily on Kim and Noel's been great about gathering us all together (he's the only reason I had any of your e-mail addresses). We can certainly talk it over during lunch that day. - Ruf

Don put it best, "The guys who didn't come are really gonna wish they had." We had a blast thanks to Rolf our rabbit on his bike. We each had a radio so we could all talk. Rolf rode up ahead and made sure there were no "issues" waiting for us.
We charged up MN 60 and Don's 85 S3 just walked away from my '82, and he was actually able to keep up with Rolf most ot the time. Half way up MN 60 we pulled over to let the brakes cool off, just a little west of Wabasha.
Once we got back on the road we crossed over into WI and went up WI 37 to Mondovi. What a great road. They must have resurfaced part of it, because it was smoother than it was. We pulled into Mondovi at about 11:15, got gas (some of us anyway...), had lunch and talked cars, bikes, racing etc. etc. Next time we need to plan more time to shot the sh*&..
After lunch we headed 1/2 way down WI 88 to Co. E (Rolf's last min. suggestion) and shot over to Alma so someone could put gas in his shark. He didn't want to use the 89 octane in Modovi, and was running low... Must have been all that sprinting... WI 88 was super tight and challenging, with alot of braking & down-shifing for those who have more than 3 gears... and general fun.
After refueling, we decided to head up the river to Pepin for a photo op. and took some shots of ourselves, the sharks, the bike, the river etc.
we decided that we'd try to do this once/month. If you're interested in a July romp, e-mail me with two Saturday dates and a preference for a Lake City to Rollingstone/Mn. City run or a romp through the Mindoro Cut near LaCross Wi.
Thanks to Rolf S. and Don D. for making it an intimate but fast moving affair! - Ruf (rcsanders1@mmm.com

Sounds like you had a great time! I grew up in Robbinsdale and know exactly where you went. Great roads. It's been about 8 years since I've been back in that area. One area that I used to love was up around Taylors Falls. It's probably too congest nowadays for a decent cruise. If I ever drive back with my shark I'll look you guys up. Sounds like good times!
