Default seat switch

I'm stuck diagnosing a seat power gremlin. '85, Driver's side, the right hand, horizontal (like the forward/aft on the left switch) does not activate anything. The three motors under the front part of the seat run when supplied with 12v. I replaced the 4-way switch, no joy; NOTE to all, if I had done this dianostic search first, I may have saved the $$ for the switch, not cheap. So I believe the prob is in one of the power connectors. The 4-pole that goes to the 3 front motors seems OK, as I have 6 of the 8 directions. There is a separate 2-pole cannon plug that hooks in toward the rear of the seat. I honestly can't remember if I checked that so I will re-enter the standing-on-my-head mode. Does anybody know what that connector supplies?

If neither direction runs it may be the motor?

Take the seat out and test that motor directly - then trace wiring from the switch. on the non-memory seats the motor connections are all grounded by the switch except when operating - so don't connect power to the motor while its attached to the harness.

I neglected to say, "the seat was out and disconnected when 12v was applied to the 3 motors at the front." I know something is missing here, but I can't figure out why there is a separate power connection running to the seat back. The new and the old switch malfunction in the same manner so I'm guessing it is the connectors, but the plugs are clean, no corrosion.

Steve,
The separate power connection is so you can take the seat back completely off without the wiring being in the way. I'm sure this is also the way they build them...

Hey how is this one configured...? lumbar or non-lumbar?

pull the required parts - assemble - plug together and slip on the requested covers ...

For future reference, memory seat switches can be used to replace non-memory switches. All it takes is about 20 minutes and some very basic soldering skills. I learned this a few weeks back when I realized I needed some switches and then saw the price for replacements. I had a spare set of memory switches and went to work soldering.

JH: Why go to that bother? Are you saying the memory switches are cheap? If so where did you source them?

I believe someone posted years ago that they were actually cheaper (the switch part is exactly the same - only the wiring/connection to it is different).
