Think i did a drive shaft
So i think ive done a drive shaft.
Started to hear a knocking sound sometimes from the lefthand rear wheel.
Did not feel like a wheel bearing and i jacked her up and it didnt move around
like a bearing gave way.
I wasnt near home (again) when this happened and managed to quietly drive
her home.
It got worse when i got home and didnt make the noise when accelerating.
Oh well another thing to fix.
Things got worse when i got into car number 2 ( 69 mini cooper S)
It started up but not running on all cylinders. Ive driven it only twice after spending $ 3000 at the mechanics on the bloody thing.
Not happy!
Sam.

Sam--
The torque spec for the bolts on the inner drive flange, where the inner CV bolts to the trans, is about 66 lbs/ft IIRC. More than a few cars have left a repair shop with those bolts under-tightened. The symptoms are the same ones you describe. That same symptom also describes loose lugnuts (94 lbs/ft) so you have a couple things to check.

Sam, easy to diagnose. Just jack it up, turn wheels, (in gear, out of gear, etc) and observe what is happening to other wheel, central shaft (not torque tube, that is the outer non-ratating item, central shaft is the rotating item). Be foresnsic, eliminate what it cannot be, and when you've eliminated those, the answer will be evident.
My money is on:
1.Loose CV joint bolts
2. Broken central shaft (odds on the latter - you have been caning your new toy, especially from stooped and taking off around corners, it haven't you!!)

Thanks for the comments.
I havent had a chance to have a good look but i think its the left rear centre shaft.
Daveo i wouldnt say ive been caning it, Ive been taking it pretty easy waiting till i have the timing belt ect... serviced.
On the day it happened i was cruising on the freeway for a couple of hours.
No fast starts off the lights or around corners.
Oh well i got the mini running right yesterday so i have transport.
