Ok, just replaced the aluminum lower ball joints on my 82 but I cannot see anything on the shock that would allow it to be adjusted.

there are no threads anywhere on the body of the shock like on the rears so I am a bit confused at this point as to how to adjust them.

help

The Old Buggers did not have front adjustment collars.

Not necessarily...Workshop Manual p. 40-49 says:

"Placing a spacer beneath the lower spring plate increases the height of the front axle by approximately 10mm. A maximum of two spacers per spring strut is permissible"

I'm about to order Bilsteins from 928int'l, and they have the adjusters on them.

could you add these spacers on any model? My 84 is raised to the top, has new shocks and springs and still is too low.

You can also order up used threaded sleeves, adjusting collars, and lower spring perches from any of the big 3. I got mine from 928Intl for just a few $$, bolted them in when I did the shocks on my OB. Presto, front height adjustment.

Mike, which car did you do this on?

I have a set of spring perches to retrofit to my front springs, but have heard conflicting stories about needing shorter springs in order to use them.

Can you provide some details? I'd appreciate it.

I used the spacers...funky rubber thingies - available from Pepboys, etc...about $4 or 5 a pair!

EASY install - only removal is the front tire/wheel!

Hey Randy... sorry. Napping. You know how it is when you get old.... well, maybe not.

This is on the 78. I put the stock, original springs back in along with new Boges. With the top of the adjuster collar flush with the top of the threaded sleeve (per the manual) I have a ride height of 185mm or 27.25" at the fender lip.

Beast handles like a go-kart.

I used a long skinny breaking bar to 'stretch' the distance between the coils to make it easier.

I got about 3/4 of added height. Could still go up another 3/4", tho...I'm doing the S4 brake upgrade in the next week or so - will attempt to raise with the collar while everything's off.

That is NOT the kind of spacer that Porsche is talking about. The Porsche spacers are shaped rubber rings that go on the end of the springs.

The twist-in type can lead to interesting reactions when the springs bottom out ...
