the 928 343 533 00 spacer ring used by Porsche is a small "washer" steel which slides over the shock body but rests on the "dimples" which hold the lower spring perch . With the spacer in place the lower perch botttoms out on the spacer about 3/8 of an inch higher .

Just for grins, take a look at the height difference between a Stock 79 928 and my 84 928 S2. I'd say there is a little bit of a difference.

The Sliver/Gray is the 79 and the slate blue shark next to it, is my S2 (Black rear bumper cover).

Doesn't Rich take good Pics?.

So.. you guys are saying that the huge fender gap on the '79 is normal and correct? I've seen a few that have a gap like taht, but it just seems unnaturally high. My novice opinion, with worn inner edges... - Ruf

Yeah, I'd say it's supposed to be that way. My 78 has tons of room between the top of the tire and the fender lip. Outstanding handling at that height. My 84, on the other hand, is too low and pushes.

So, did Prosche change the spacing on later cars to get rid of the "gap" but keep the same suspension positions?

My '82 has a really nice fender clerance of about 0.75-1.0" from tire to fendor on the front, and I had the alignment checked two weeks ago and it was correct (or corrected.. The shop is Auto Edge, in Minnesota.They do lots of race prep for club racing and DE, and they did check ride ht. along with toe, camber etc.)

It handles like a car 1000 lbs. lighter and always has. Timm will tell if those inner edges wear faster. - Ruf
