The 928 S4 stolen in South Texas is in a police impound lot in unknown condition. Over the weekend Jeff (the owner) ran TV ads offering a reward for the stolen car, using artwork created by Rennlist users. We feel that the thief became aware of these ads and dumped the car, but we may never know for sure.
We'll know tomorrow what condition the car is in but in the meantime thanks again for all the hard work and support from the community!

Good news!
Hope it get's better.
Keep us informed of further news.
For future reference could you get us some particulars on the recovery effort, cost's, type of media contacts and distance the sHARk was found from home.
Might help a sHARk owner or two down the road.
Again it's a good thing to hear about a quick recovery.

This is great news! Hopefully the car hasn't been trashed!
I am just surprised that we - the Rennlisters - never got to see the artwork. Wouldn't you post all the search information here first?

Update: Jeff has not seen the car yet, he's driving out to see it later but hopes the Police will try to gather some evidence off of it. The car was called in by someone who'd seen the TV spot, it was sitting in an apartment parking lot. It's driveable but we don't know if it's been damaged, vandalized, etc. just yet.

A Thank You! update:
Car was found in Portland, TX (about 40 miles from Padre Island). After 30 sec. "Crimestoppers" type TV spots started Sat. AM, Portland PD received a tip of car in apartment complex lot Sat. night. Informant left name and address, but turns out neither could be found or verified as of this morning. Said he saw it on "Crimestoppers." Not really, but close.
Thanks to Rennlister's quick work and response, Donald's photos, and Joel's work with two Rennlist folks with Photoshop experience, my car was "re-created" for TV.
Produced piece at local NBC/Fox affiliate Fri. am, to run 20x Sat., Sun, Today on both. It was awesome. Offered $1000 reward for tip leading to safe recovery, with future additional reward promised for arrest/prosecution if car not recovered. Cost was $1,100. but station is refunding for spots cancelled for today.
Cops surmise that perp. saw spots, got scared, tipped cops, left keys on floorboard, and walked away. My $1,000 reward is probably safe.
Car is in fine shape, with exception of very low left-rear corner. Hit or backed over something with hair or fur on it (ugh). Rear cover folded back to point of cracking paint, slight dent in steel quarter. Hope it was bearskin rug, but probably an animal. Have not touched car, as am arm-twisting cops to come back and dust--but wrecker driver says runs fine.
Cops botched crime scene--didn't treat it as such. Greasy fingerprints from tow driver, inventory of contents without regard for prints, etc. I guess stolen Porsches are not a crime scene these days. All kinds of excuses. Frustrating.
Thanks again to all. Wouldn't have happened otherwise. Sometime I'll find a way to post VHS tape of spot given to me by TV station. Impressive stuff.
Really appreciate this group!

'87 5-spd RECOVERED!
RMB, Ott, new dent (I'll take it)
ps. Does anyone think I'll ever leave keys again?

glad you got it back. Cop response appears Typical with stolen vehicles these days. My motorcycle was stolen in a similar manner (never leave your keys on a key rack in the open!!!) Theives broke into my house, stole ALL my keys and the bike. Cops dusted for prints in convenient locations and never even looked into the cell phone records (they stole a phone, too!) Found the bike 3 weeks later within walking distance of my house. must have been too much power for them!

They get used to the idea that most people have insurance. So they do not really bother to do any work to find vehicles. They may go after the chop shops, or the big rings, but they do not really do much to find any individual person's vehicle. Which is really unfair to the people who cannot afford theft insurance. It's like those with money, get their vehicles replaced, and those who don't, get left with nothing... Really unfair. I have had them refuse to even come out to a crime scene. They insisted I go to the police station, and fill out a report, with the assumption that I would be needing it for insurance purposes. I could have made up any story, about anything, and they would have written it down. They never even came out... That's life in LA though...
It really sucks with motorcycles, because theft and collision are combined with most policies. So there is a high risk of you totaling the bike. Not to mention a high rate of theft. So the cost of insurance can be as high ar $3-4K per year. So if you skip the insurance, you could quickly save enough to buy a new bike. It puts you in a pretty lame situation regarding insurance on motorcycles. Most people with bikes run around with just liability...
