Had a nice weekend spiffing up the sharks for the wife's calendar shoot. Nothing like a clean shark to make your day.







New paint job (schieferblau metallic -- done in the tiny dirty little one car garage you see in the background there; painted rims stripped and polished too.)












New seats and carpets.












Here are couple shots of the two cars together.


(Newly added. Some glitch, of the user sort no doubt, caused a failure to load the second pic the first time around.)


And one of my lovely wife next to the supercharged model. (This will probably be the calendar pic...)

Thanks. I'm running Carl's kit (928 Motorsports), currently at about 5-6 lbs boost. On a recent dyno, I ran 330 rwhp, but with good fueling and no more alcohol. I've got a few changes in the works and am still working out the bugs.


Hmmmm. 10 psi?

Wait a minute, that car couldn't have been painted in that garage, could it?

That engine is immaculate! Great work. The interior looks great too.

I hope you two can make it down to 'Sharks at the Beach'. It should be a good time. Afterward we're planning a tech session at Adam's garage in Freehold in case you can make it.

Thanks a lot. Yup, I really did paint in there. Just ask the fire chief in town. LOL




It still looks pretty good that we will be able to make it for the fun drive, and Leslie is certainly looking forward to it. (Note, please read as: she is pestering me night and day if the cars will be ready to go or not? ) I cannot promise to make it to the tech session right now, but if it's not too far back in the wrong direction and the cars are behaving, I can say maybe. I've made some major changes to the system recently that are not 100% tested yet, and that's why I just can't say right now. But it does look good, and I think we will be fine, so Leslie's keeping all her fingers crossed for the both of us.

PSS. Please, no offense intended. Shouldn't you be seeing a LOT more than 330HP? I thought stock they (euro model) put up about 310?

Hi John,

I agree about the more hp. The 310 hp listed as stock for the 84 euro is measured at the crank. I'm now about 389 at the crank, 330 rwhp. Unfortunately, during a recent teardown I discovered that my pistons seem to be the 83 euro pistons with 10:1, rather than 10.4:1, compression ratio, even though my engine numbers are correct, which is probably playing a big role in this shortfall. The car didn't have the posi rear option either, it was an open rear. I'm guessing (warning, pure speculation follows) that the original buyer probably was not interested in major performance so much as the cachet of simply owning the car, so when Porsche built it, they might have used leftovers from 83 and the buyer probably never noticed that he didn't have a "real" 84 euro.

Carl also feels the hp didn't go up enough because of cam/valve overlap. I personally feel the computers and their tuning is where the hp is being lost and I'm working on that. Right now I am running Carl's supercharger race rebuild with impeller and it's making 10 to 11 lbs boost with #36 injectors. I have changed the cams and it's almost tuned but still has a few bugs to work out. Then I'll go back to the dyno.

Thanks for the interest -- no offense taken. We were hoping for 400 hp or more too, and I'm not stopping until I get it.

I was actually thinking the same thing (crank hp vs. rwhp).

Let us know when you plan to dyno it, I need some baseline numbers and I missed the Long Island dyno day a few weeks ago. Maybe we can do a NJ dyno day?

Default Powerdyne supercharger

Check the serial number on your supercharger head unit; if it starts with "14" you in big trouble. Powerdyne is no longer in existence; the name and patents were recently purchased by another company who plans on licensing the right to make the units to a 3d party. A batch of head units starting with serial number "14" were milled at more than .014" off; thus, the units continually fail. You can rebuild them all you like, use whatever bearings you want, but they will still fail (ask me how I know.....). Since Powerdyne no longer exists, the only person who can make warranty repairs is Carl -who has done so several times on my unit; once I learned why the unit was always failing, I felt much better about Carl (not his fault even though he rebuilt several times...). Have got new Powerdyne unit installed (that doesn't start with serial number "14" and, so far so good. Will be at the track all weekend (Willow Springs) we we'll see. Installed new Nitto NT01's front and rear, so looking forward to a weekend with a working supercharger and new tires. Thanks Carl for your honoring the warranty - you could never rebuild the unit so it would stay together. Have sent you private email on this issue. Carl's kit works well and with a good unit, you should enjoy the car a long time.

Right now with my 84 Euro race car, I run 7psi of boost with air/air intercooler (120F intake temp on the track) and I think the car is doing around 380 rwhp. I did not dyno it yet, just comparing with car I can pass on the main straight now.

Thanks Trialattorney. You scared the crap out of me for about two minutes. But fortunately, mine starts with a 13. Does that mean I'm safe?

(Too bad, mine just blew again this morning. It's been making a funky noise since I got it back after getting the race rebuild with impeller, but I have been having trouble getting Carl's attention what with his recent events. Up to now, his answer has been that the race bearings make more noise than the stock bearings, and not to worry, but there seems to be other issues at play here. This morning the funky noise became a full blown problem.)

Well, hopefully Carl can shed some additional light on the subject. We'll see.

In the meantime, if a warranty is not available for my problem today, it's now looking a whole lot less likely that we'll be able to make the Sharks at the Beach GTG on the 15th. Just don't have another $250 to spare on a second rebuild kit at the moment (with less than 300 miles on the current one ).

Sorry Mike. We were really looking forward to it.
