Default Broken alternator belt

Driving home from a short errand. Save Power warning comes on. The the Anti-Lock Brakes warning lights. Luckily, I was only blocks from home.

Pop the hood and see this...The belt around the alternator is busted. And it looks like it damaged that other belt too. Its kinda blurry but that is fraying on it. What's that belt in the second picture to? I guess its a good time to change out the alternater now. I think it might be one of the few parts that I haven't changed in the 9 years or so that I've had the car.

Well it looks like it took out either your compressor belt or your smog pump belt, if you had A/C and don't anymore its your A/C belt .

Wade- You have excellent taste in garage floors!

This is what the belts looked like on my car when I brought it home. They were the first things I changed. Check out the cracks......

From the pictures of the pulleys the belts from front to back are:

alternator, air pump, pwr steering, a/c.

Looks to me you lost the alternator and air pump belts. Did the alternator belt break? then take out the other or vice versa?

Rob - Thanks, that was one of the first things I did when we moved into the new house back in December. And probably one of the best things I've done. Cleaning up oil, water, etc is a snap. Plus, it looks good.

Malcom - Looks like the alternator belt broke and took out the air pump belt. And it looks like the power steering belt got hit because its starting to fray. The AC belt is still good. It was the newest of the belts. The others weren't much older. Not nearly as bad as the ones in Robs pic.

I lucked out. I was coming home yesterday from filling up with gas for a trip into LA (about 80 miles from home) that I was supposed to take this morning. Belts broke only blocks from my house as opposed to miles away going 85mph on the 210 freeway.
