Default How to Test Auxiliary Air Regulator Valve (formerly) Does an 84 US have an ISV?

Does the L-jet equiped 84 ROW car have an idle stabilization valve? If so, where would I find it and what does it look like. I cannot find it in the WSM.

Thanks.

You should have an 'Auxiliary Air Regulator', not an ISV. It's the valve on top of the engine just below the engine crossbar slightly left of center when looking at the engine - has a hose that turn 180 degrees back toward the engine.

No, you have an auxiliary air valve at the rear of the engine on the passenger side with the two air hoses going into/out of it.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you want to adjust the idle speed, you turn the big screw at the front of the throttle housing (big flat head, look down into the V from the front of the engine.

I am trying to track down the source of a very rough idle when cold starting. The engine needs throttle input to stay running. As soon as it warms up a little ( 60 seconds or so) it runs perfectly.

I have my auxiliary air regulator valve out. I put 6v to it and the small disc that you can see through the ports did not move. I gave it 12v and it still didn't move. Its only got a 2 pin plug so I am assuming one is supposed to get + and the other - . I pulled the Aux. Air Reg.valve out of my 79 and it didn't respond to the same voltages. I have the car torn down to the point now where I cannot just swap them out and see if the problem goes away. Does anyone know how to test one of these valves?

OK. I just found the test proceedure for the valve in the WSM. You put your tester across the two prongs and a good one should red between 45 and 70 ohms. To test the power supply you should jumper the fuel pump relay. You should see battery voltage at the plug.

I will edit the title of this thread to "How to Test Auxiliary Air Regulator Valve"
