Post Tach gone wild

While driving my car I noticed my tach going from 2000 to 5000 to 2000 then 4000 rpm's. Just the tach went crazy, the motor was running fine. It seemed as if it was losing the signal then jumped all over the place. 1984 Euro with the 310 HP motor. Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks Sal

My WAG would be a bad ground(s). Or possibly the printed circuit board connections. Time to play Sherlock Holmes, good luck.
